Who should not take Wegovy
Wegovy is not suitable for everyone. It should not be prescribed to people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or MEN2, a known allergy to the active ingredient or another GLP-1 medicine, a history of pancreatitis, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and it is not licensed for under-18s. Extra caution is needed for people with severe gastrointestinal, liver, kidney or eating-disorder history, diabetic eye disease, or those taking insulin or sulphonylureas. - Wegovy was recommended by NICE in 2023 (TA875) for adults with BMI ≥35 plus a weight-related condition.
- NHS access is via Tier 3 specialist weight-management services after a GP referral. Availability varies significantly by area and may be limited or paused locally; check with your GP before assuming NHS access is available to you.
