IVF Medication Costs in Australia — Patient Information

General patient information about the service-level cost framework of IVF medications in Australia. Not an advertisement, not an offer of sale, and not medical advice.

Important information for Australian consumers

IVF stimulation and support medications are prescription-only (Schedule 4) in Australia. Australian regulations restrict the advertising of prescription medicines to consumers, so this page does not list medicines by brand name alongside prices. The clinical choice of medication is made by an AHPRA-registered fertility specialist following an assessment.

PBS subsidy structure

Most IVF stimulation and support medications are PBS-listed when prescribed by a registered fertility specialist for an approved indication. Under PBS rules in 2026, general patients typically pay around $25.00 per script; concession patients pay around $7.70. A standard cycle typically involves several PBS scripts.

The PBS Safety Net reduces costs further once annual thresholds are reached. See pbs.gov.au for the current thresholds and Services Australia for the Safety Net rules.

What to ask before paying

  • Which medication classes will be used in your cycle (stimulation, GnRH antagonist, trigger, progesterone support)?
  • Whether each script is PBS-listed for your indication.
  • The dispensing fee at the supplying pharmacy.
  • Any cold-chain delivery requirements for refrigerated medicines.
  • How dose changes during a cycle affect total cost.
  • Whether the clinic offers a written total-cost estimate for the cycle.
